LASAR®, which stands for Limited Authority Spark Advance Regulator, is the first microprocessor based engine control system approved by the FAA for general aviation piston aircraft. With the system operating in its automatic mode, cylinder head temperature, manifold pressure, and engine speed (RPM) are monitored by the LASAR® controller to establish and command the optimum ignition timing and spark energy to produce maximum torque from the engine. The LASAR® system has an inherent mechanical magneto backup system that automatically assumes control if electrical power is interrupted or if the microprocessor detects a system fault.
